Dear Parents and Guardians:
I hope that everyone has had a chance to read the Crook County Smart Start Plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Mr. Broderson talked through the plan at the parent meeting on Tuesday evening in regards to the overall plan for the district. I would like to discuss what we are doing at Sundance Elementary to keep students and staff safe from Covid19. The thing to remember is that this plan is fluid and can change at any time. We are working with the Department of Health, Department of Education, Governor’s Office, and the CDC for their expertise and guidance.
Students will be allowed to play outside in the morning before school starts. At this time, students are not allowed to use the playground equipment, but students will have access to balls and other sports equipment. We will continue to offer our breakfast program each morning starting at 7:45 am.
Our plan is to run as normal of a school day as possible with students attending special classes and recess. There will be times that your child will be required to wear a mask during the school day. This will take place during transition between classrooms, and also when students can’t socially distance six feet apart. We have masks available for students, but they are also allowed to bring their own mask from home. Students will also be required to wear a mask on the bus if they can’t safely socially distance six feet apart. I encourage you to send a water bottle with your child since the water fountains are turned off. We will be utilizing the water bottle fillers throughout the building.
We will be running a normal hot lunch schedule with social distancing in the gymnasium. Students are still allowed to bring their own lunch to school. My goal is to have everyone eat in the lunchroom, but if space is limited we may have some classes eat in their classroom. We will continue to serve hot lunch and offer a fresh salad bar utilizing adult servers.
Your child will be attending special classes like art, PE, music, and library. We will utilize the same protocol in those rooms as we do in the regular classroom. We want to create as much of a normal school day for your child as possible. The classrooms will have disinfectant spray and wipes available throughout the day. We will also practice proper hand washing several times throughout the school day.
If you have any questions in regards to the district Smart Start Plan or general questions about routines and procedures at Sundance Elementary, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Please remember that this plan can change at any time and we will make sure to notify you of those changes. We are committed to educating your child in the safest and most secure learning environment possible.
